We often hear about climate change as a world issue and frankly it’s a large one. But what about a country’s issue? Recently I began researching on climate change in Pakistan. So first let’s get into what Pakistan’s climate Is like. Pakistan occupies over 880 thousand square kilometers. All this land has a very different and unique topography. Mountain ranges, lakes, tropical and sub-tropical ecosystems, northern cities with heavy snow and southern cities which are always hot. Now think about it. How vast must the climate be across the nation? The mountain ranges are extremely cold in the winter and have pleasant summers. The vast plains are EXTREMELY hot in summer and in winter the weather is cold and pleasant. The southern coastal strip has a temperate climate. There is a general deficiency of rainfall as rain is monsoonal. On average rainfall is 76cm per annum. Some major environmental issues in Pakistan are; water pollution from raw sewage as most of the population does not have access to potable water, industrial wastes which is due to many factories, agricultural runoff as Pakistan is a poorer country more people farm and deforestation which is caused by soil erosion and desertification. I believe everyone should have knowledge on the climate situation in their country. The world situation might not matter to some people because “it’s not affecting them” even though it is. But their own countries, their own cities situation will. Help make your country if not that your city or even your neighborhood a better place. Because in some way you WILL be helping the world become a better place.
